Sailing in El Gouna, Red Sea

El Gouna, with its maze of azure shallow lagoons and its sandy beaches, is a mecca of watersports. The aqua and diving centres in town and in resorts offer a great choice of quality equipment and tuition, such as catamarans, banana rides, canoes, pedal boats and great snorkelling excursions to the nearby islands.

The king of watersports in El Gouna is though kite surfing. The large sandy beach at Mangroovy, with its shallow turquoise lagoon and perfect wind conditions all year round, hosts one of the best spots in the area to swish and jibe and jump with an excellent choice of kite surfs.

El Gouna boasts also the only professional water-ski school in Egypt, located at the Sheraton Miramar lagoon, and is available to everyone. With a capacity of up to 40 skiers per day, the school offers teaching programs for beginners (available in various packages) as well as the latest equipment for both pros and beginners.

Some specialised boat charter companies also arrange for you private day trips to the awesome desert islands of Tawila and Gubal, to swim and snorkel in their pristine crystal-clear waters. A beautiful sailing boat is also available for daily trips to the nearby coral reefs. Boats with equipment for deep sea fishing (the only sport-fishing allowed in the Red Sea) are also available for rent.
